The Tripartite
Organized dentistry has membership benefits at three levels:
- the national level — the American Dental Association;
- the state level — the Oregon Dental Association;
- and the local level — your component society.
As an Oregon-licensed dentist, when you join the the ADA, you also join your local dental society and the Oregon Dental Association —and a tradition that dates to the founding of the ODA in 1893. “Tripartite” describes the organizational tiers collectively. Each level within the tripartite sets its own dues, selects its own officers and board members, and makes decisions on the services and benefits it offers to members.
Become a member of organized dentistry by visiting the Oregon Dental Association website and completing a member application.
Your completed application is sent to the local dental society in your area for approval. Next, the application is forwarded to the Oregon Dental Association, where membership dues billing occurs. Your information is then forwarded to the American Dental Association. Shortly thereafter you will receive a new member packet from the Oregon Dental Association and your membership card from the American Dental Association. You are now eligible to take advantage of all the benefits of membership!
